"Pre" code team

Published

Several weeks ago there was a thread about teams that are called to evaluate a patient on the floor that the nurse thinks is going bad. It involved ER/ICU nurse, resp therapist, etc. i have tried several searches to fiind this thread, but nothing is coming up. we need this at our hospital. HELP!!! tell me i'm not going crazy!! i did see this somewhere!!!

WE have a rapid response team. I dont know how long its been there, but it was in place when i started last year.

I can't even say I completely know all thats on it-i know the resource nurse is, and a doc, at least. (b/c i've heard them mentioning they've been on it)

I've never had to call one. I think we can call them for near but not quite codes.

We have one. A nurse called for them last week for one of our postpartum patients w/ chest pain. They are a true asset.

we had it where i used to work - a MET team (medical emergency team). when you called a MET, ccu staff and the HMO would come a-running with their little bag of goodies. had to use it twice in the 6 mopnths i was on that ward, and in both cases it was awful handy. much better than sitting back and waiting for the patient to go from bad to worse. in our orientation package we got a little card to hang behind our id card with the MEY criteria on it, like RR above 24 or below 8, P above a hundred and something, BP poarameters etc, or if anything else was worrying and you felt a MET necessary.
