Hello Everyone,

Cost Savings.....We are at it again in our department....Does anyone out there have any suggestions? We have become pretty good at cost savings and I cannot think of anymore. We have eliminated our maternity care pack, perineal ice packs(we now make our own), limited 2 pairs of net panties per patient, and so on.....We now have to pay for glucose water and sterile water (the formula compaies now charge for this).

I just thought I would drop a line here to see if anyone had any suggestions. Please feel free to drop any suggestions at all....I will gladly take them.....

Thanks :)

That's a great site! Where did we go wrong?

What a fantastic site- eloquent and gently written.

Looks LOT like our hospital site/Labor and Delivery area. WE also have a 360-deg "tour" of the rooms and unit on there.

It amazed me how things changed from 6 years ago when I had my first son versus 2 years ago when I had my second son. In 1999 they actually sent me home with 4 packs of diapers, peri packs, burp cloths, gauze and vaseline (for my son's circ), a hospital t-shirt ("I was born at ...hospital"), a gift basket with a sippy, onsies, pacifier, and a manual breastpump! In 2003 they sent me on my way with whatever we brought with us. Right before we left the hospital I asked for a clean peri pad and they told me no, that I had used what was allocated for my room and they didn't give out extras! Yikes, I wish they would have at least given us a heads up about what we should bring. I didn't even buy newborn diapers the second time around since they gave us so many with our first, but boy was I in for a shock when they didn't give us any, lol.

I am all for cost cutting, and I think that hospitals should give their patients a list of the things they should bring so there are no suprises. I think the panty thing is a bit ridiculous though, lol.
