"Diluted" UDS

I just received a letter from my caseworker stating that I submitted a "diluted" UDS with a creatinine of .12. I also got instructions on how to avoid this in the future. Since I'm not adulterating my samples, what's the best way to respond to this? I don't have a history of kidney disease or take any medications.

I actually had this happen twice in a row... And I was testing earlier in the morning. I think my problem was I would usually just drink some Diet Coke and go test. Caffeine can make it more dilute. Also, protein helps make it not dilute. So I ended up just drinking like an Atkins shake in the morning and to not have any caffeine until after I tested, then my tests came back fine.

Really funny thing is, I think it depends on the "standards" of each company/state. At the time I was testing for two states (possibly moving, but ended up sticking with my original state thank goodness). One day I got selected to test for both states. So the lab used my one void and just split it up into the four bottles. Well my California one came back low creatinine while my Oklahoma was just fine. From literally the same stream of pee. Go figure.

Would an Advocare Meal Replacement shake with 24g protein work?

I figured out that I consume 16 ounces of water with Advocare Spark upon awakening, void again while getting ready to go to the clinic, then consume another 12-16 ounces of water mixed with drink mix or Advocare Spark to make sure I could produce a specimen when I arrive at the clinic. I don't usually drink anything with much protein.

The informational letter my caseworker gave me states:

ï‚—After your first void in the morning, do not drink more than 8 ounces of fluid, preferably not

coffee, as it can act as a diuretic, before you produce your specimen.

ï‚—If you are not able to do your UDS in the a.m., limit your fluids to 8 ounces during the threehours prior to giving your specimen. Drink only tomato juice, milk or orange juice, and eat a lightprotein snack-such as string cheese in the two hours prior to your UDS.

So I guess I have been unintentionally over hydrating. It's hard to do this just right, so I don't have to worry about driving with a full bladder or having to wait at the clinic with a full bladder. I have done my fluid intake this way each time. I didn't know exactly how much fluid to drink or not drink.

Is that what you did before the test that came back diluted? If so, I might take out some of the water. If thirsty maybe just drink milk? I would always pee first thing when I woke up (cuz of course I have to go bad then) and then drink the protein shake which I think was maybe 12oz. I'd wait about 2 hours then go test. Now that I am not testing for California which is where I had the problem, I don't worry as much about it now. With my tests, I just try to have a glass of instant breakfast (which is like chocolate powder mixed in milk) and not have caffeine to be on the safe side.

Sorry this happened. Just adds to our normal stress of our situation. I work nights and so I usually am a little dehydrated when I test in the AM. I have never had a dilute. I usually drink only coffee on my mornings off, so maybe I need to have a little peanut butter or milk before testing. Remember the goal Soror: free&clear license at the end of the rainbow when we do not have to worry about what we eat, can drink all the water we choose and don't have to worry about wearing perfume or using hair spray. Hang in there...paid

Update: Well, this is interesting. I just got a Q4 Compliance Report that says I am in 100% compliance. This is done quarterly and sent to the BON.

The paradox of seeing the veiled threats a few days ago with this. Weird.

But then again, most of this monitoring program navigation centers around winning the mind games they like to play. Doing what you are told to do to the best of your ability. Not hiding. Being assertive.

Yes. I do look forward to a day not too far away when I can hydrate myself how I see fit, wear perfume, use hairspray, eat what I want, and not have this daily "accounting".
