I've noticed that a lot of companies are looking to hire for "contract" like 3 months and then possible hire perm. Is this something new they are doing now?
I was sent a note from a friend today that one company is wanting a 6 mo contract for an insurance company in Alq, NM.. anyone know what insurance company might be looking there?
Thanks

Not new at all. Many companies want to "try before they buy".
They see if you will be a good fit or not.
Contact these agencies, they will be happy to tell you which companies are hiring contractors.
Here in Michigan it's the big ones like BCBS.
Good luck!
Thanks for the reply....

I have wondered this too. I have an interview for a 3 month temp job with bcbs. I wondering if this would be the best way to break into the profession since I'm having no luck with obtaining jobs in the field. If the opportunity was available, so I quit my full time job and go prn for the chance of getting hired on permanently? I don't think that I'm going to last another day on the floor to be honest.
I understand your thinking like this but be sure you like that job before you totally quit. Sometimes the grass is not always greener. Especially when it comes to insurance companies.
That's true. I'm just afraid that if I pass up this opportunity there will not be anything else out there. CM jobs are so hard to get.
Not possible to stay on a PRN basis while you give this a try? Good luck ...
I plan on working prn just to keep my foot in the door. Jobs are very hard to come by now.
I also just got a job offer for a clinic CM position that I applied to. The job sounds very interesting and focuses on medicaid clients. The only problem is the pay, which is lower/salary position. I could afford the cut, but not sure whether to accept or not. I'm lucky considering this is my first CM offer so far. Should I take the low paying job or hope for the best regarding the insurance position through agency. Any advice would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post.
At this time and poor economy I would take the job because the training is invaluable and time works toward the CCM. That means a lot. Stay PRN at other position if you can. You're lucky to get an offer..
Thank you for the advice! I'll definitely take it under consideration. Good luck to you.
What is the job description for the clinic CM position? Is it truly case management? In that case the pay cut would be worth it.
The BCBS position would most likely take 3 months just to train for. What is that job description?
Yes, it's a CM position. It's a community organization that provides services for medicaid clients. The CM is responsible for coordinating care, assess needs, referring pt's to appropriate resources, educating, and following up with pt's in clinics/home.
The BCBS job is a 3 month contract position with future possibility of getting hired on permanently. It's an Episodic Care Manager position. The nurse performs medical reviews. Basically utilization management. I was told that they train you for a month, but I'll find out for sure when I go to the interview.
