"Clinical Systems Analyst" interview

Specialties Informatics

Published

So I recently got a job interview with at LTAC for a "clinical systems analyst" position, basically traveling from site to site training and debugging during the rollout of new EHR and its features. The fine gentleman on the phone has told me that 40-50% of my time will be traveling. Now my interview is Monday, so that is all the information I have at the moment. But my question to my fellow nurses who have held or know about such a position is... what are your travel requirements for such a position and is there room for progression in the informatics specialty.

Thank you for your time.

Specializes in Med-Surg, Nursing Informatics.

Hello! I am a clinical systems analyst, but in a hospital setting. One hospital (critical access) system. We also have owned practices/clinics and a nursing home. I do not travel for this position, but I do know of others in multi hospital systems that do go from facility to facility.

Room for progression? I would say yes to that. I am a diploma nurse from many moons ago. I don't have a degree, but if you do, get your ANCC certification in NI. Get a CHPMSS certification (HIMSS) if you can too. Get your masters if you can. At my former facility a classmate of mine from nursing school had her bachelors and now has her masters in education but also had done a lot in informatics, she was employed by her current facility as the Director of Clinical Informatics, but is now the CIO. So, yes, I would say there is a good chance at progression, especially given today's environment when the field is bursting wide open. Good luck! Let us know how it turns out!

what are your travel requirements

I ask if there is per diem, and if there is not, then what it is offered in exchange.

What are the travel days?

Usually they are leave on monday, come back thursday night.

However, some positions require you to travel monday, come back friday and those type of traveling jobs are not as fun in the sense that you get home friday night, and next thing you know, you have to leave early monday morning.

At least when you arrive thursday night, you feel you have one extra day to recover.

Let us know how it goes and best of luck.
