"C" in second semester chemistry, stressed out....To retake or not

Published

As you know, I've made another thread about how I look as far as my gpa goes up to this point. Here's the link. https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-student/chances-acceptance-u-694756.html```

Anyways, I'm having a bit of problem this semester with just this class. I'm most likely going to end up with a C for the semester in this class, but all my other classes should be straight A's. I've been really frustrated with all the stories I've been hearing lately about the nursing program. I thought this semester would be a good one, but unfortunately not. I've never gotten a C in my four semester here and I just hate thinking about it. The stories of people getting in here with a 3.7 gpa and comparing myself with a measly 3.684 at the moment is really stressing me out. I'm taking A&P I this summer followed during my school year with microbiology, lifespan development, statistics for the first semester and A&P II second semester with gen eds. I took the first A&P and it definitely was a hard class. Now I'm thinking how I post up against other people applying. If you have the time to read the other thread I linked would be greatly appreciated because at this point if I don't get accepted because of this C in chem, not sure what to do. Who knows what grades I"ll be making when it comes time again for my last two semester before applying. I don't know whether it's how I study or just the material in general. Any advice, tips, or even any sort of help because I"m thinking of switching majors if this doesn't work out. I was set out going to do nursing regardless, but now I"m having second thoughts about this whole "high" gpa pedestal criteria that nursing school is regulating. I know where going to be dealing with life and death situations, but if I have a passion for it why deny me? Thanks for the read guys.

Hi, I read your other post. Don't let one "C" bum you out. Maybe Chemistry is just not your thing. I think if you get "A"s in your other sciences, one C in chemistry is probably not going to be the end of the world. Just try the best you can. Look t youtube videos, google stuff you don't understand, and get a tutor if you have to.

The worst case scenario is down the road if you cant get in with the C, then you can re take it chemistry. It may set you back a semester or 2, but in the long run that is nothing! I would just try to relax, and just worry about one thing at a time. I would also suggest not trying to do too much at once if you are feeling overwhelmed. Its better to take fewer classes at a time than to try to do too much and spread yourself thin.

Don't give up on nursing because of 1 class. I got "A"s in all of my other classes, but barley got a "C" in chemistry. I really had a hard time with that class and spent close to 500 dollars on chemistry tutors. I felt like giving up too, but I stuck with it and I am glad I did.

Very true. It's just puzzling me that I am getting a C in the second semester of chemistry. I have an A for the lab though so I guess that's a good thing. In addition, that was the reason I dropped Psio and Anat because I had chemistry back to back and was not working for me. I always go to my professor's office hours, but I'm trying really hard to push forward and try to get in my first try. I think I will be applying next spring for the following fall admission, so the only class I should be taking is the second part of A&P and some gen eds for a minor. As for the last thread I made, what do you think of my progress as far as gpa goes based on that story? Thanks again!

Also based off my college of nursing requirements, they accept one c in any pre-req. Although, is there any other advice you would give me in any of my remaining classes to duff out this C? Thanks! Also, is there any advice on the application process and interview? Again, thanks for all your feedback and advice guys and gals! :)

Hi,

With my pre-req's I always spent hours on ratemyprofessor looking all of the teachers up before I signed up for any classes. I got stuck with a few terrible teachers before I figured that out. It has made a world of difference for me and makes it so much easier to keep your grades up.

That's funny because I've been using rate my professor since my freshman year! lol

I've not taken Chemistry (yet) but looked up my Fall biology professor's name. She seems to have rave reviews. I am having more trouble this semester than last semester. Have you looked at Salman Khan's website, khanacademy.org? Good luck w/your classes!

First semester wasn't as bad. Second semester, I"m not sure what happened. To be honest, the college of nursing here in Tucson says that I can have one c in a pre-req. Refer back to my previous thread about my gpa. It's pretty high with all the classes, but a bit low with just nursing related pre-req's. In addition, I really don't want to retake second semester chemistry again if I get a c. I just would hate the fact of redoing it. It's not that I don't want to better my gpa or anything of that matter. I feel like I got the big picture of this semester's course work. I just didn't like the tests at all.
