quiz question driving me nuts...

Don't think I'm a knucklehead for not knowing this but.. the question was worded oddly something like, post partal patient being treated with vitamin K, what would be an appropriate diet choice? apple, orance, green tea, saurkraut

I know that saurkraut and green tea both have vit k, orange vit c and apple fiber, but if the patient is ALREADY being treated with vit k, you wouldn't want more, would you? unless the question was worded wrong, or I'm missing something with the apples and oranges, what a fruity question...driving me crazy!

urgh that sounds like the kinds of questions we get now and then. Makes ya scratch your head and ask 'huh?"

As you can guess I don' t know for sure the answer. maybe you should look at why the person is on vitamin K. Or are you sure it was vitamin K and not K+ as in potassium? If they needed potassium then the orange would be the right choice.

Huh, I don't know!

I would love to know. I think teaching the patient about food high in Vit. K would be warranted because it's not readily stored by the body. It's a fat soluable vitamin but none of those choices have fat. My first choice is green tea because that's the highest in Vit. K. Then again saurkraut has friendly bacteria in it (if it's raw).

Let us know what you find out.

as it turns out, she WAS asking for a food high in vit K, and she said that it was saurkraut. However, the question made it seem that the pt was already on vit K, and that was what confused me. A lot of students argued that the vit K in cabbage would be boiled out and would not help, she did not give the points.

Thanks for coming back and telling us. I would argue the point too that green tea has more Vit. K, but I don't know, but not all saurkraut is boiled, traditionally it's fermented.

But what kind of American is going to recommend someone eat more saurkraut??? Especially here in the south.

Poor choices if you ask me.
