Quitting a per diem job

Due to previously making myself available to work then frequently being cancelled last minute (2 hours before the shift starts due to staffing needs), I'm going to have to put in my notice for this per diem job working with MGA. Unfortunately it's been less than 6 months. Is this something that I can point out in my letter of resignation or should no?

For example, "Due to erratic cancellations due to staffing needs, I've decided to resign effective 12/6/2016..."

I would not. I made that mistake and all it did was make the manager super defensive. If you want to use them as a reference, just keep to the simple "moving onto new opportunities" line.

That's the nature of PRN work. I don't see how any special point needs to be made about it.

"Dear Human Resources Manager Name:

"I have decided to pursue another opportunity in nursing. My last day for call at ABC Hospital will be DATE. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you. I particularly appreciated the wisdom of Jane Smith, RN, manager of 4West and the collegial spirit of the 5East staff.

"I may be contacted by mail at 123 Elm St, Anyville ST 11111 for year-end paperwork, tax forms, etc.

"Sincerely,

"1Jessie86 RN"

Like others have suggested, I would not mention any "erratic cancellations." Yes, it sucks. Perhaps if they had been more aware of their staffing needs they may not have been calling you off with such short notice. However, a polite and professional resignation letter is always in your best interest. I wish you the best in your next opportunity!
