Hi, and welcome! I attend the part time RN program at QC and am in my second semester (started Jan 05). I have children, work full time, and find the program challenging. The first semester was insane with the amount of reading required but you will get use to it. The test are a bit different in that memorization does not usually work well for the exams. You must be able to understand and apply the knowledge not regurgitate it. If you have any other classes to complete, now would be the time to do it. After the first semester you will get a five week break, but that is the only long break that you will get in the program and I am sure that you wont want to spend that time taking another class (as I had to take micro). Stay up on the reading assignments, dont wait until the last minute to study as most of the material is cram proof especially if you are working full time. Its just too much info to digest, and the way the exam questions are worded your memory will surely betray you. Try to score well on the first exam so you are not playing catch up, and are forced to get a high grade on the final. If you were an A student in college, dont be alarmed that you are not getting A's in nursing school. Its not impossible, but in my class only 2 people out of 30 got A's (2 A's 6 B's the rest C and below). We lost 4 students this past semester due to grades, which I hear is the norm per semester for the program (attrition rate of 53%). Please pm me if you want to know more specifics! Congrat on your selection to nursing school!
hi!
I, too will be starting the Nursing Part-time program in Jan. '06! I'm very excited and nervous. I've also found the "secrecy" issue with the school and program. I've found it helps to either call or e-mail Tracy Wallace, she's been very helpful. I'm awaiting any Orientation information, too. I've been at Quincy for 2 years now, completing all the pre-req's and chipping away at all the non-nursing classes.
I'm a Mom of 3 kids, too, and I work part-time. My husband is a SAINT. It will be nice to meet you in January! I've met some great people there following the same dream, and it's nice to have good friends to help us through this crazy journey.
Best of luck and stay in touch!

Hi-How is everyone enjoying their summer? I was wondering if there were any current or former students from Quincy College's RN program on these boards. I have been accepted into the Jan 06 program. I don't know if I am more excited or nervous right now.
It is REALLY hard to get information from people about the program, expectations, facilities, etc. I have found so much information that has been passed off to me as truth turns out to be a big rumor or exaggerated version of the truth. Whenever I call the school with a particular question, I always get the "you'll find that out during oreintation".
I don't mean to be a fly at their picnic it is just that I am married with 3 children and I work full-time. I need to know what changes to plan for not just for me, but for my whole family.
I would love to hear from any nurses/nursing students in MA...about your education, NCLEX experience, careers, employers, etc.
I wish you all the best!!
