I am studying for my final tomorrow can you help me understand why this answer is correct?
The question is, the nurse finds femoral bruit and knows this means:
A. Bruits occur with turbulent blood flow, indicating partial occlussion
(right answer)
And this was another answer choice "hyper-metabolic state will cause bruits in the femoral arteries"
Why isn't that one true please? I thought hyper meant it does, not hypo-metabolic?
Thank you

Ok I don't even understand where you are headed with the hyper- hypo- metabolic states when defining bruits... but the most direct answer is the sound is caused by the turbulent blood flow, nothing else.
Well..I don't know exactly. I was thinking it's true with hyperthyroidism to cause bruits in the carotids..kind of assumed something hyper metabolic for other arteries. Oops.
Thanks.
