Questions about working at Doernbecher children's hospital

Published

Hi. I'm a new grad nurse and I just accepted a position in the NICU at OHSU Children's hospital. I just had some question I was wondering if anyone worked in the hospital could answer.

What color scrubs do the nurses wear?

What is working in that hospital like? Are people friendly to new nurses?

How good is the orientation program. Since its not a new grad residency position I'm a little nervous but was told the orientation lasts 18 weeks.

How is scheduling done? I tried asking about this during my interview and they said it was preference but you don't schedule yourself but didn't go into any more details about it.

How does taking time off for vacation work? I already have a family vacation scheduled for 2023 thats already been paid for since it was supposed to happen but got canceled due to Covid and I don't wanna miss it.

I know these are questions I should ask the hospital but I don't wanna bug them with anymore emails so I figured I would try here first before emailing them.

Thanks!
