questions regarding air force nurse

Published

Hello!! I have questions regarding joining air force as a nurse.

1) Would AF pay for my college tuition during nursing school or after school?if during school, when should I apply for it?

2)How long is the contract usually for repaying my loan(with or without bonus)?

3)After contract is done, am I free to live as a civilian? or would military call me again if needed?

4)Can you choose where you want to be stationed at overseas? or would AF deploy me wherever they need to?

5)How hard is COT?

6)In AF would nurse usually do flight nursing or can you choose your specialty?(ex. pediatric, OR, NICU)

7)Do you require prior nursing experience in AF or is new grad ok for AF nursing?

I would appreciate it if anyone in AF nursing can answer my questions...:D I'm currently attending community college taking pre-nursing courses, and planning on transferring to state university to get my BSN. Thanks a lot!!!

If you haven't yet started the process of applying, you have at least a month or two until you'll go to MEPs - so maybe it wouldn't be an issue by then? :)

NurseJessi, are you currently in community college or are you already transferred to a University? I was told to contact the Health Recruiter for the AF the last year of nursing. Right now I'm still waiting on Community College to accept me. My plans are to transfer to University of Phoenix for my BSN. I need to check if the AF would accept that. You all have given great information.

I actually have graduated with my BSN... just waiting to hear the good news (hopefully!) from my recruiter about going to COT (Officer training) in January. Unless you want to do ROTC, the time to contact the recruiter is definitely the last year of your nursing program. That way you can put your packet in ASAP after you graduate.
