1. how long have you been a nurse?

13 months

2. from which kind of educational program did you graduate?how long ago did you graduate? adn, may 2008

3. have you returned to school for an advanced degree?

starting in january

4. what do you remember most about your nursing program?

the absolute ruthlessness of the grading scale. we had several students fail out by half a point or less.

5. what was the best part of nursing school?

the bonds that formed amoung classmates.

6. what was the hardest part of nursing education?

the time and dedication to studying.

7. did you have children to care for while you were in school? were you married? no to both, thank god.

8. have you ever left nursing to do something else

not yet.

9. what do you remember about your "state board exama" or n-clex? complete bs. that my competence to be a safe nurse was determined by a computer in the space of 75 questions is just insane.

10. what nursing jobs have you had since you have left school?

med/surg/detox

11. in what specialty or nursing area do you work?detox

12. approximately what is the salary for most nurses in your specialty area? depends. i make 47k, others with years of experience make 70k or more.

13. what are the most satisfying things about your job?

having a patient say thank you.

14. what shift have you worked most? advantages and disadvantages? night. fewer staff available to deal with situations. fewer family members around.

15. what are the things that make your job most difficult?

staffing, bottom-line focused management.

16. do most people in your workplace like their jobs/managers/peers? why? the staff on the floor (rns and cnas) all get along great and help each other out. our manager is a former icu nurse who never worked a med/surg unit of any kind and thinks we're all idiots.

17. if you could do it over, would you go into nursing again?

yes

18. would you encourage your son/daughter to go into nursing?

don't have either one.

19. would you have done anything differently in your education or nursing job choices? wouldn't have taken this particular job.

20. in a perfect world, what would you change about the profession of nursing? it would be nice to be seen as a valuable part of the healthcare team instead of money-draining replacable nothings by management. i have quite a few more, but need to get some sleep!

Great info. Thanks!
