Questions about NYP Weill Cornell, especially PICU

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi all,

I am in the process of interviewing for a PICU position at NYP's Weill Cornell campus and have some questions for those who work there/have worked there as I can't find any recent threads on the topic.

1) What are holiday shift/weekend shift requirements like?

2) What kind of kids are seen in their PICU? (acuity, etc.) What is the staff:patient ratio like?

3) Do you like the work environment?

I already had an interview with HR and I am interviewing with the manager later this week, but I am trying to get a general feel for the unit before I go in. Thanks in advance!

Hi Kjam19, I did hear back and found out that I was offered a job! It is for the PICU at Morgan Stanely though, where is your interview for?

Speaking of..does anyone know the difference between the PICU at Morgan Stanley and the PICU at Weill-Cornell?

And I am a new graduate. I wish I could give you some advice, but my interviews were all over the phone (aside from the NYP new grad events) so I feel like it was very different from what your interview will be. Good luck though!! I am sure you are going to do great. Just have confidence in your answers :)

Congrats nurslaur! I applied to PICU positions 3 weeks ago as an experienced nurse (almost 2 years in a hospital but not in PICU) and the nurse recruiter said they are only considering RNs with experience in PICU. But now I see new grads are considered too. I dont know where I fit in im not a new grad as i have current hospital experience but my experience is not in the exact specialty so I do not qualify for anything and the positions in my area of experience are all filled since last month.

Congratulations Nurselau1! That is awesome. My interview is for the PICU at Morgan Stanley as well. I have a year and a half of med-surg experience but not PICU... fingers crossed it goes well. When are you starting then?

Thank you everyone! I'm sorry to hear that @MissJessRN, I hope an opportunity turns up soon for you. Even as a new grad I have found it extremely difficult to find anything.

And @Kjam19, good luck on your interview! I'm sure it will go great. I am starting December 8th.

Thnx. i will just give up on nyp. problem solved :) my resume is good and reviewed by peers, and i have hospital experience but for some reason they dont want me. oh well....
