Questions about NYP Weill Cornell, especially PICU

Hi all,

I am in the process of interviewing for a PICU position at NYP's Weill Cornell campus and have some questions for those who work there/have worked there as I can't find any recent threads on the topic.

1) What are holiday shift/weekend shift requirements like?

2) What kind of kids are seen in their PICU? (acuity, etc.) What is the staff:patient ratio like?

3) Do you like the work environment?

I already had an interview with HR and I am interviewing with the manager later this week, but I am trying to get a general feel for the unit before I go in. Thanks in advance!

Hello scb7620 - I m looking into PICU nursing at nyp - I know you posted this back in May 2013, just wondering if you ever received any feedback about these questions because they similar to the questions I have

Please feel free to PM me- I can answer these in detail for you. :)

Hi scb7620,

I just got a call for an interview tomorrow with a PICU nurse manger. I tried to pm you, but I don't think I am able to do due to the number of my posts. If you have any advice or can fill me in on what type of questions they will be asking, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Hello mrsinghnyc! Congrats on getting an interview! I hope you don't mind, I'm wondering if you're applying as a new grad or as an experienced RN? I'm still hoping to hear from NYP for an interview as a new grad. Thanks and good luck!

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I applied as a new graduate. I interviewed on the 19th and they offered me a position on the 27th! I am so excited. I hope you hear soon too. I know they had 4 positions available so they might be holding more interviews soon.

Hey mrsingnyc. Was the position you applied for a new graduate position? I check NYU openings pretty frequently and I've never seen a new grad opening for picu. Did you just apply to one that required experience or was it specific to new grads? Thanks!!

mrsinghnyc, thanks so much for letting me know! Congrats on the position! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed about those other positions. Best of luck!

Omg congrats congrats, you go! That is such a dream job! Do you mind sharing how you applied to NYP? I keep looking on their job site, but all the job descriptions say you need at least 1-2 yrs of acute care experience.. since I'm a new grad, I don't think I would qualify :(

Yes I would love feedback on how to get a job there. I know they do new grad events but I am located out of state!

Hi @mrsinghnyc! I'm wondering when you are starting in the PICU? I recently had an interview with them too and am waiting to hear back. Also wondering if you are required to take a pharm exam at all, and if so is this online or in person? I only ask because I am located out of state and would have to fly in to take this exam. Thank you!

Hi @nurselauer have you heard anything back from your PICU interview yet? I have an interview in the PICU in 2 weeks that I am flying in for! Also are you an experienced or new nurse? I am trying to better understand how this process works. Thanks!
