Questions about Marina del Rey area..

I may be moving to MDR in March of 2006. I have some questions.. Have opportunity to rent 3 story home in MDR for 2K - is that reasonable? What is social life like as I will move there not knowing a single soul? How far is it from Irvine? What is job market like? I have degree in business and gerontology and for now want to pursue job dealing with seniors so looking at nursing home adminstration or something akin to it.. Just any info you have on MDR area etc. if it's nice place etc. would be appreciated.. I currently live in AZ and need a change in my life...

Marina del Rey is on the ocean just south of Santa Monica and Venice beach. It's close to LAX and Hollywood. It's actually a very nice spot to be in. Yes, 2K sounds right if its a nice place. You ought to be able to walk to the ocean beach.

Irvine is south, down in Orange County. It would probably take you about an hour to an hour an a half to get there depending on the traffic. I-405 can be a real PIA to drive especially during rush hour.

There are a lot of nursing homes. LA is a huge place. Lot of businesses. Lot of mixture of asian, mexican and american culture. You should be able to find something to make money at. Driving the freeways will be a shock if you've never done them out here before. I suggest you buy a Thomas guide map for Los Angeles and Orange county when you hit town to help you out getting around at first. Plan on seeing the sights (Disneyland, Universal) because when all your friends come out to visit they will expect you to take them there and you should know how to get to them.

Write to the Chamber of Commerce for info. I'm sure they'll be glad to provide you with it. Also, check out Santa Monica.

Daytonite, Thanks for reply. I did not realize Irvine was so far. I am not in a rush and have just started to post resume targeting my degree. I am waiting to see if I get responses from CA companies and see who is interested in me..The place in MDR is just an idea...I will contact the CC
