Questions about being a HHA - home health aide

Published

Hello I am just starting out into my career for nursing. One school that I am looking at requires health care experience and a letter of recommendation from an RN. I am curious as a HHA is there a relationship built between the HHA and a RN? I have already taken my CNA training and know how hard it is to be a caregiver. I am just curious whether I will have a chance to be near a nurse or develop a relationship with one so that I am able to get a letter of recommendation.Yes, it is in a way selfish, but I do not want to apply to a job without knowing if I am able to talk to an RN so I do not waste the company's time.

Other than that I would like to know your daily work schedule and how many clients you see a day. Thank you!

Welcome. We moved have your thread to the Home Health Nursing forum to elicit some responses and feedback from RNs who work in home health. Good luck to you.

On a daily basis, working as a home health aide is an independent activity. If you want to approach an RN for a letter of recommendation, I suggest that you discuss this with the clinical supervisor at the start of your employment so that s/he is aware of your intentions. Most clinical supervisors have no problem with providing references for field personnel, even with minimal contact.
