Hi everyone. Again, thankful for such a great resource as allnurses! I

have been interested in pursuing LNC for some time now, pretty much cost has prevented me from attending the VM seminars....but I've been reading, researching, etc. I have a varied nursing background, so that helps.

Well, here is my issue....simply by sheer, dumb luck, an opportunity has fallen into my lap to contract w/a law firm and do legal nurse review for them. They are aware that I have NO LNC background or training. They are willing to train me and facilitate my attending the training seminars, etc. In the meantime, they have given me a "sample" case to review.

One question: Do you ever, on forum, or via PM discuss anything about case specifics? NOT revealing pt. info/names/dates/places, etc? More like...here is a "generic" or "hypothetical" situation......

And, 2nd question....how often does the case you are reviewing really have nothing to do w/a medical issue...as in, it was a safety issue, building not to code issue, etc? Is it often you review a case where there wasn't any medical negligence, but they are "looking" for one? I hope that makes sense....

Thanks, and if my questions are not appropriate, I apologize.

Hello, moondancer, and Welcome to the Legal Nursing forum

Glad you are considering the LNC career.

Sounds like you are fortunate to get this opportunity with this law firm. Congratulations.

To answer your question. No. We do not discuss any case that someone is currently working. This would be against TOS for self-promotion and not the purpose of the forum.

how often does the case you are reviewing really have nothing to do w/a medical issue...as in, it was a safety issue, building not to code issue, etc?

I've had several cases related to Personal Injury/General Negligence as it relates to Premises Liability, accidents, equipment-related injuries, objects striking workers, etc.

Is it often you review a case where there wasn't any medical negligence, but they are "looking" for one?

Yes, quite often. The LNC must apply nursing/medical SOC/SOP as it relates to the case. Often one will actually find cause after extensive research of the medical record. One of the reasons an attorney needs an LNC to pour over that medical record.

Good luck with this new venture. And, if you have any other questions/concerns, please post here.

Thanks for the info. I am fortunate, for sure, but realize that I have a lot to learn, LOL! Thanks for shedding some light on some of this for me. :)

Again, good luck.
