Hello!
I am a senior in high school, and I am confused about what I want to do in the future. Next fall, I plan on going to community college to get my prerequisites out of the way. After two years, I will have my RN-ASN. From there, I want to transfer to Oregon State University to get a public health degree and a minor in nutrition. After that, I want to try to get my BSN.
So my questions are..
1. Is there a fast track BSN program if I get a public health degree?
2. Is it even possible to get a degree in public health and BSN?
3. Is this a good plan? If not, what would you recommend?
4. Should I focus on getting my BSN first?
Thanks so much for your time!
If you know what you want to do, then go for that. So, if you know you want to be a nurse, go straight for the BSN. If you aren't sure, second degree/ Accelerated BSN programs are pretty common. So you could major in something more general for your first bachelor's degree, like nutrition, and then apply to an accelerated program if you still want to be a nurse.

If you want to be a nurse, it makes the most sense to just do that straightaway. You could get a degree in exercise science at Oregon State and then enter an Accelerated BSN program but I don't see why you would do that if you know now that your goal is to become a nurse. If you get another degree first, you're just delaying getting your BSN.
If you get an ADN first and pass NCLEX-RN, then you do an RN (ADN)-BSN bridge program. You don't need to get a bachelor's in something else and then go into an accelerated BSN program. There is no need to minor in nutrition to work as a nurse in an eating disorders clinic. Nurses who work in such clinics are not nutritionists, there are RDs and LDNs on staff for that. Degrees in public health don't typically do much to advance a nursing career.
