Questions about Excelsior credits transfering to universities and local colleges?

Hi All,

I am considering taking my LPN to BSN online through either Excelsior or Indiana State. I talked to the Florida Board of Nursing and they will license both in Florida. And Excelsior is regionally accredited in the Middle Eastern States region.

My big concern is... Has anyone in the last couple of years been able to take their RN from either school and apply it to a BSN or NP in a local college or university?

I spoke to St. Pete and they said they wouldn't take excelsior credits and that I would need to get a new ADN to continue there? I have had the trouble of talking to multiple people at the same college and getting multiple answers to the same question.

If anyone out there has had a positive experience I'd love to hear about it!

Thank you!

OK. Has anyone had any experience good or bad?

If I were you I would contact the top 5 schools you are considering applying to once you have finished either school and see if they accept, if either, these schools. I would also, make that contact via email so that you have something in writing stating it is so. I have met two RNs locally who were paramedics, took Excelsior classes but neither has been able to find a school locally (I live in Melbourne, FL) or in Orlando that would honor not only the "class" hours but would not recognize the "clinical" hours. There has to be somewhere that does, right? Try University of Phoenix and other schools that you can do classes online, you might have better luck.

GOOD LUCK

It doesn't apply to me but I know someone who was able to progress from an ASN from Excelsior all the way to an MSN and NP. However, I know they did not do this through any Florida school. Like all such things, it depends on the particular school. I think it is a bad thing that you keep getting conflicting info. I would take that as a warning of potential problems and look elsewhere. Good luck.

I was wondering if you had started, and what's your status. I am interested in doing the same thing and transfer to my local college. My biggest concern, though was getting FL state approve license.

Hope all is well..

Hi again,

I decided to go ahead with Excelsior after much research. I have completed all of my nursing classes and I'm now waiting for my CPNE date. I have done the program with 2 other people and we are here at the end. It took us 9 months do take all of the tests, and during that time we have met so many people that graduated from excelsior or who are currently enrolled in excelsior. I actually work with 2 of them. None of them have had a hard time getting a job with their excelsior degree or going on to further their education. One of the other girls met an ARNP who was an excelsior grad.

I have met people that quit the program so you have to decide if you can learn in this manner. It's not for everyone but if you learn well on your own, find a friends to keep you motivated and go for it!!

The excelsior staff is wonderful! You always get a person on the phone, you will never feel rushed and there is never a run around like at the brick college I attended here in Tampa!!

Good luck, /FONT]

lol oops figuring out the font stuff:coollook:

Thanks, for reponding and CONGRATS on your achievements. I have decided to go ahead with Excelsior. It really fits my schedule. My husband and I are LPN with three girls. This will be convienent for both of us; at least myself. He hasn't completely made up his mind. I am going to CLEP two classes at my local college and apply for the nursing program. From my understanding I will be exempt from one of the essential courses. Well, i will keep you posted and up to date. I plan to commit by December so I can have a full physical year to keep upi with my status. It's a COD mental thing to see/know Jan-Dec 2011 to have this completed with hopes of acceptance.
