Questions about CNA classes...

Published

Hi everyone! I am a pre nursing major in college right now. I just started my pre-reqs this week so I've got a long ways to go until nursing school. I've heard of people who take CNA classes and then they work as a CNA before going to nursing school because it looks good on your transcripts. Is this something I should consider doing while my schedule is so light? If so, where can you take classes? I live in Las Vegas, Nevada (and go to Nevada State College) and I wasn't sure if you could get certified in college or if there was a private course you take off campus?

I would appreciate any help!

Thanks

Check your local community college & see if they offer a CNA course. If not, check your state's board of nursing website and see if they have a list of places that offer CNA programs. Good luck! Being a CNA before starting nursing school is a great idea. I did it & I learned a lot.

Thank you!! Would you suggest starting a CNA program right away (while I'm at the beginning of my pre-reqs?)

I don't really know if there's a right time or wrong time to take the class. I took the CNA class one semester all by itself & focused on getting certified & finding a job. Then I enrolled in a summer class, and went back to school part-time the next semester. In my opinion, the course isn't hard at all.
