Questions to ask the Interviewer

Published

So I have a few important interviews coming up and I want to have some valid questions to ask the person who is interviewing me when the opportunity presents itself. What are your suggestions?

Depends where it is. It's always a good idea to read up on the places you're being interviewed at - history, philosophy, etc. You can ask how hours get assigned, how work routines work (who you'll be working with, what floors or wards in a hospital), how many nurses work there, what the hierarchy is like and how it works (who would be your superior), what charting you'll be expected to do, how overtime works, what the interviewer likes about working at that place...you get the idea. Good luck with your interviews!!

Thanks for the well wishes, so since it is modern day essentially everything is done online in terms of applying and you are more or less just a number until you get selected (for whatever reason that may be). Once you are selected you have an interview with a "nurse recruiter" that recruiter performs an interview and after that apparently you are taken to meet with the department managers who liked your application in the first place. So basically I can't ask the recruiter how he/she likes working there because they are simply HR people who recruit potential RNs and more than likely know nothing about the field itself. I could however ask about certain job duties but I personally feel that asking how overtime works and what the hierarchy is like are out of line.

Is this your first nursing job? I would ask a few questions about the orientation process, specifically length and organization. Also, I'm not sure where you are applying, but I would also ask about what resources will be available for help after you are off orientation.
