few questions from An OKLAHOMA PN graduate

Hello all. Names Mary. I work in a nursing home. Just graduated PN school on the 28th.. My question is.. As a graduate if they do your orientation as an PN do they need to pay you the PN wages of that facility or is it up to them what they pay you? I'm a CMA and they said before I take boards that they can employ me as a grad PN and they can do my LPN orientation now but they only want to pay me the CMA wages.. I do not think this is fair honestly.. If I am being ORIENTED as an PN then I sould get paid better then CMA wages.. I'm not saying pay me the LPN wages.. But at least give me an incentive for actually doing the orientation and doing someone elses job.. JMHO anyone know if there is an OBON ruleing on what an unlicenced Graduated PN should make? If so please advise

TIA,

As I understand it, Oklahoma does not recognize the "graduate practical nurse" in terms of employment. Graduate nurses from RN programs can use the title and be employed in that status. I would guess that you don't really have a leg to stand on for getting more pay until you've passed boards. I was working at the hospital as a CNA when I graduated my PN program and had to stay in the same position, same pay until passing boards. Good luck with it though!

the OBON has a link on guidelines on how to employ graduate nurses as a nurse tech or a PN tech... nurse tech= RN student or grad.. PN tech= PN student or grad.. but it doesn't regualte a pay scale for it.. just guidelines on what they can and can't do and that the employer has to have it in policy that this is their role.. ya da da da.. the link is https://www.ok.gov/nursing/education4.html So i think legaley I can works as the PN grad.. BUT... The pay thing.. I will not work as a Nurse tech without something more of pay.. ya know what i mean.. How long did it take to get your ATT after graduation?

My experience was that I was paid as a CNA until I turned in a copy of my LPN license to my HR department. My experience with time to get ATT was a week after the OBON got my application. It took my school more than 6 weeks to get my application to the OBON. You need to stay on top of the process if you can.

I got a letter from pearson vue for the $200 money order that i send them.. The instrctors send out our transcripts on the 28th.. it only take a day from here to get to OKC though the mail.. I am hoping that my ATT comes in soon though..As far as the job goes.. I will work as a CMA/CNA untill my licences comes in then I will do the orientation for LPN.. if They are paying me as a CMA/CNA then They can continue to have me as a CMA/CNA.. :D
