Questions abou Immunizations & titer

Published

Ok here is the deal. I just lost my health insurance and it may be a few months before I get any back. So, I got to pay out of pocket for a physical and immunizations &titer and tb test now so I can try and get my application in for this fall. I called up my doctor I have now and get this he says he doesn't do immunizations and all that for adults just for his kids patients ptf. So, now I got to find a doctor who will examine me and do a titer and tb test. Anyone can referrer me to a fairly inexpensive doctor?? Or do I need to go somewhere else for my titer and tb tests?? My mother does not have my immunizations records and I don't know my old high school address and I doubt they'd still have my records because it was one of those small christian private schools in Colorado. So if anyone have any info on some good doctors (on the east valley) and any info on where/how you got your titer/immunizations would be awesome! Thanks.

What about the health department? I heard they were pretty cheap...

I presume you are applying for school. Most jobs pay for your titers and vacinations. Apply for a health aid job and they will take care of it. You also will geta job and some good work expertience before you start nursing school.

I think the nursing department at MCC had a list of places where people could go get their immunizations. That was a year ago though so it could have changed. It wouldn't hurt to check with them. The health department is also a good idea. Good luck. I just finished Block 2 at Gateway. Nine months to go to graduation!

Chandler Regional holds various immunization clinics throughout the valley. It is no cost for children and they offer reducued rates for adults. I think the next clinic will be at the Gilbert Health Center. I'll double check the dates/locations at work today and get back to you.....

actually, I just found a link with info....

also, Banner Occupational Health will do immunizations, titers, physicals etc...they are located outside Banner Desert in their parking lot and they face Southern....

ASU has a nurse practioner clinic for the public - they are excellent and relatively "cheap." Physical exam is $50.00 - titers around $25.00. Call them to schedule appointment at 480.941.9283 or http://nursing.asu.edu/anc/chsc/index.htm

A lot of health insurance plans don't cover vaccinations anyway - or rather, they don't cover the ones you will need for returning to school...at least mine didn't. ASU is an affordable alternative - they may even "work with you" if needed on prices. If they took my health insurance, I'd use them as my primary care providers they are so nice and competent.

Banner Occupational Health is the Occ Health system for employees, but anyone can go to them. They have sites located at Banner Baywood, Banner Desert Hospital, and a 24/7 site right behind Good Sam Hospital on 7th Street and McDowell. You can schedule an appt or walk in. The nursing physical (w/o ins) is $40, the TB is $15, but I don't know the amount for the Hep B or Td. You only need the first Hep B shot of the series to prepare for clinicals, and then you have 30 days for the second, and another 3 months for the third (I think). At this point, maybe you will have a job that will pay for them.

Remember, (my understanding) is that you only need the immunizations either once you have been accepted to the MCCCD program, or immediately to apply to one of the skill centers. If you are just turning in a packet, you are probably looking at Spring/Summer acceptance. Your TB has to be within the last 6 months and will probably have expired by then.

Moral of story: don't fret over immunizations until you have been accepted!! Good luck!

I volunteered at Banner Desert and they required that I have all my immunizations up to date. You might consider going through the paces to become a volunteer ;) I had a TB test done and they would have done my chicken pox titer too if I hadn't just had it done on my own. I spent the one semester wait volunteering -- they loved having a "pre-nursing" student around and appreciated the extra hands. I worked two half-days a week but they'll take any time you can spare.

Thank you everyone for all your information. I looked into all those places and so far Banner and the department of health through kidscare is the cheapest.:) I wish this was for the RN program but I am still three preqs from the RN program. This is for the CNA application. Rio Salado's application packet says I am required to show that I have all my shots, finger print clearance card, physical and proof of all my preqs along with the application. They said if I don't have all those those things with the application that I shouldn't bother. I decided to do CNA suddenly because I realized I only had to take NURS156/157 and I thought it would be nice to get the experience esp if there is a big wait for the RN program...at least I can be working and doing something in the field. I have alot of pent up energy right now because I am a stay at home mom and I miss working so much. :)

Ok, So I really need help! I have no health insurance and I need a physical and the Varicella titer, and TB. I have called banner and ASU and they both said its anywhere between $100 to $300 dollars for the physical and there was no one to give me a price quote on the titer or TB. I am freaking out! I already spent $70 on the fingerprint clearance card, $6 to be fingerprinted at a police station, $30 to take the CPR course. $25 for the net exam and $20 on study material. I also had to pay an additional $50 to have my CNA switched from NY to AZ. Not to mention the gas to drive all over the valley to get all of this done! Does anyone no where I can save some money at all?!? PLEASE HELP!
