Hello,

I have a questions for new LPN's and for any one else who might be able to answer this question for me. I'm orienting in a nursing home, and I'm still a GPN. Next week when I go take the state boards, and become a LPN, I'll be a charge nurse on evenings and

I'll be on my own with CNA's under me. I feel I'm going to be so lost, and am thankful that I'll have CNA's who know the ropes. But I was also told I need to be upfront with the CNA's, and let them know my expectations on my shifts. I have a backbone, but

I don't feel comfortable telling people whom I don't know what to

do right off the bat. Right now, I have a good idea what I would like some of my expectations to be like. I'll be passing meds, and

with some meds, vital signs need to be taken first, so there for I would want those completed within the half hour before I need to

start passing out meds. I think all of us has expectations of the CNA's who work with us on the wing, but I used to be a CNA, and

some of the expectations of me were just way too much... so I don't want to treat these CNA's the way I was treated... What is one to do?

Another thing... what are the state boards like?? Is there a calculator on the computer, or next to the computer to use? Is it a calm and some what relaxing envirorment? Are the staff friendly? Now I know not all the places are set up the same. I'll be taking the state boards in Rochester, NY. Was there material that seemed to appear more than other material? Are the questions random, or does it go through a series of the same type of questions before changing subjects? As you can tell our intructors didn't go over too much information about the state boards. I think I'm going to have a nervous break down before the 15th gets here!!!!!!!!!!

First of all - CONGRATULATIONS & GOOD LUCK on NCLEX!!

WOW.. you are gonna have your hands FULL! Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable as a charge nurse fresh out of school. As far as the CNA's go - I don't know! I have managed people before (up to 50), but never medically. It's a whole new ballgame.

The only advice I have is about NCLEX. There is a tutorial on what to expect. I have provided the link. It's very informative. What is your idea of relaxing?? If it's being photographed, checked, checked & re-checked, fingerprinted, and watched on camera - then YES it will be a relaxing experience. However, don't freak out about it... no big deal and everyone has to go through it. You're a big girl now :)

Angel dahlin....just think of each CNA as a "husband" and you'll have NOOOOOOOOO problem with delegating. :rotfl:
