Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I know pre-nursing courses (ADN) are taken in CC ,is 4 years college's(I mean university)pre-nursing courses are taken in CC too?what are the different prereqs between them?

The prereqs level between them are different?Or 4 years college's pre-nursing courses are harder?

Are the non-nursing courses needed to take ?eg Literature,History and speech....

Thank you!

The courses in a community college verses a university are not any easier. They are the same courses, for example Anatomy and Physiology, so it's not easier to take it one place or another.

The pre-reqs and co-reqs for ADN vs. BSN are going to vary from college to to college. I needed to have 2 Englishes (many ADN programs require only one), Sociology, Psychology, A&P, Microbiology, Marriage and Family, Human Growth and Development, Speech, just to name a few for my ADN program. These are similar requirements to my BSN program. For the BSN program I had to additionally have Statistics and college level Chemistry, World Civilizations, and Religion.

Again, it varies from place to place what pre-reqs and co-reqs are necessary.

Thanks for reply! You really help me a lot!

You said that the pre-nursing courses in a community college are not any easier than university's,they are almost same,so I want to know if RN program in community college (ADN) is easier than university's?

If I take the pre-nursing courses (for ADN),can I have these courses trasfer to junior(university) ?Or the pre-nursing courses (for ADN)are just for ADN?

thanks!

Again, it depends on the school. It is not "easier" to get an RN from an ADN program than a BSN program in terms of academics. Many people choose to pursue the ADN because it is easier financially (less time to get to the RN) or because the ADN program may have a more flexible schedule, but that's about it.

As for transferability, you would have to contact the universities you are interested in to find out their transfer policy. Some schools may transfer everything, others may require you to repeat a course at their school, some may have a cap on the number of credits you can transfer. Only the school would have that information.

It seems to be a common idea that Community Colleges are easier than Universities in all aspects. For the most part I hear RN programs are comparable in difficulty, they just cover different things at times. As for prereqs, what a lot of people have told me is a lot of times prereq classes are more difficult within the Community Colleges than in the Universities. I've heard this from several people who've come to the Community College I go to expecting to get easy transferable credits. The difference I've been told is that in Community Colleges you are in smaller classes. The largest lecture I have been in was 100 people for gen psych. In the Universities you have SEVERAL hundred people in a lecture and teachers can get a bit lax when grading so many papers and what not while the Community College teachers have the chance to be a lot more picky.

I'm not saying this is the definate, but this is what I've heard.

On the level of classes I'm doing my prereqs to both one of the local community colleges and the university. The university requires a couple more basic courses, a higher level chem and a high level math.
