Is there a protocol for measuring the fluid intake for a laboring client that eats ice chips while on NPO status? I have to closely monitor her I&O but I'm not sure how to document the ice intake.

Isnt a full cup of ice chips 90ml?

Ice chips melt to 50% of the qty. For example, if you give a patient a 50cc cup of ice chips, it melts to 25cc water, so you'd record the intake as 25cc.

We usually only measure ice intake on strict I/O patients, e.g. PIH and pre-eclamptic or heart people.
