question about salary in the US

Depends where you'll be living - cost of living and pay rates vary considerably between states and even between cities in some cases.

how much is the average salary of the nurses in the us? lets say ill be assigned in san diego california? will this $24/hour be enough for us? thanks for the response

I'm in Michigan. That's "reasonable" for nurses (new) around here.

You have to consider all sorts of things when asking whether that will be enough money to live on though.

At that rate you will make about $864 per week.

At least $150 of that will be taken out in taxes.

You will probably want benefits (sometimes they are mandatory) and those will most likely run you at least $50/$100 per 2 week period.

Rent around this area is probably between $700-$1000 depending on if you want 2 or 3 bedrooms.

Summer isn't too bad, but winter incurs some pretty high expenses. Heat + electric for even an apartment will probably run about $150-$200/month.

Groceries - $75-$100 per week.

Automobile - $300/mo. ulness you own your own.

Insurance - Homeowners/renters/auto/etc. $100/month.

Cable TV/Satellite/Internet/ETC - Pick what you like. Probably at least $50 /mo.

Now, that's just around here (pretty decent cost of living). If you add all those up using about average or in between some of the figures I gave you you'll have about $600 left per month for other things (gas/food/clothing/eating out/movies/Christmas/etc.). While I think it's "okay" money that really isn't a lot left for "just in cases".

If you're talking Califormia from what I hear EVERYTHING is more expensive in Califormia. I think is some areas you can't even buy a house for less than like $400,000 (and that is a one bedroom one bath - certainly not big enough for a family). My brother lived in Sacramento about 8 or 9 years ago and their rent for a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment was $1600 per month. :trout:

I guess there are lots of things for you to look into. Yes, the weather is really nice in CA but I don't know how anyone can afford to live there.

I don't think that would get you far in San Diego, but that's why they have a higher salary. Usually an average, it's impossible to answer your question. You need to narrow the area down.

6 days a week? Why would you want to do that?

You know, the more you work, the more they take out it taxes. Working twice as much does not mean you will earn twice as much.

I don't know how you'll be doing that with a pay of $24/hour. Unless you're working 12 hour shifts and you work 5 12s a week. That is a lot but it can be done.

i just heard a lot of filipino nurses do that, so why cant i? so california is not a good choice considering high taxes, which state would you guys recommend me to go, with lower taxes and prices of commodities, rents, etc. thanks for the response again.

I'd go insane if I worked 6 12's at my work. There's more to life than work!

Like I said earlier, just because you double your work doesn't mean you will double your salary. I've noticed that 1 shift extra a week is fine. After that, you start losing money in taxes.

California - even San Diego is quite expensive. $24 per hour is a slave wage for a nurse in this State. I can't tell you what the "average" is. I can tell you that a registry nurse makes about $39 per hour - with time and a half after eight hours. I live in California so I know whereof I speak. If you are in another State - like ones that don't have State taxes and lower costs of living like Nevada, Washington, or Texas you might be better off. The market price for a one bedroom apartment in Los Angeles (in a decent complex) is about $1400 per month and going up - like it used to be in San Francisco. Maybe some new grads here will respond to this. Good luck!
