Question about restless leg syndrome

Published

I recently read up (but only a little) on restless leg syndrome as I had a patient who had a history of it.

For those of you in the know, I'd like to know, is the moving of the legs voluntary to relieve discomfort, or is the moving of the legs involuntary and out of the patient's control?

i've had it only in late pg, all 3 times.

horrid.

It would only happen when i laid down to bed. I just had this urge to get up and move my legs. if i tried to ignore it, it got worse and worse until I had to move

There is a commercial out now about a treatment for RLS, and let me tell you, it describes it really well.

Might be a tic?

nah, not really. a tic is involuntary movement. this is voluntary movement. you are deciding on your own to move your legs. of course, you are moving them b/c your legs feel so tingly/prickly/creepycrawly that ifyou don't move them you'll go crazy.

I get those crazy horses at night: ouwee! I don't sit still much during the day, and my legs dance around alot at night too. It doesnt bother me, but Poor hubby. My doctor has been wanting to treat me for adult ADD...she must have picked up on my fidgeting! {and she knows my children have that problem: figures they came by it honestly }
