Question about pt room assignments....

Published

I am trying to study for the NCLEX and a few of my classmates said that they had quite a few questions regarding pt room assignments. This got me thinking that maybe I don't know as much as I should on this topic. I was wondering if I could get some help determining which patients should not be paired together? ex:someone who is on immunosuppressant shouldn't be roomed with someone who has a current infection. So anything along the lines of this would help, and you can be more specific too. Thank you!

To be honest, that's one of the easiest sections. Once you do a few you'll see a trend and be able to answer most of those types of questions.

Like which pt would you place near the nurses station: patient with traction, a dementia pt who wanders, a pt on isolation, or pt with lots of pain.

answer: dementia pt!

Infectious patients with surgical patients (smaller hospitals don't have the "floor" for separate different specialties), no boys with girls :D, do all possible to not put a A & O walkie talkie in with a sun-downer/moon-upper who rattles on all night with weird word salads, fall risks near the desk, etc....

Think safety- either due to the patient's behavior, or the diagnoses.

I think i know individual room placement well. I was just trying to brush up on any specific patients that shouldn't be paired with a specific patient who may be more susceptible to their room mates illness. thank you for your reply
