HH psych is no big deal. The patient is supposed to be at their baseline otherwise they would be hospitalized. That being said, some should be hospitalized more frequently than others. I work with MANY out pt psych patients in home and out, and most of them are real happy to see you. The thing you really need to be concerned with is how they will react to your reaction to them. (Hope that made sense). They can be quirky, but we all (well I do) have relatives somewhere that are a bit off. Just be sure you don't bring the hangups and pre-conceptions in the door with you. They can tell if you are uncomfortable just like anyone else ussually.
sorry,
i just re-read your question and realized i didn't really answer it after i got off my soapbox. most of the patients i see at home are schizophrenics , schizoaffective, bipolar , and alot of mixed cases with borderline intelligence thrown in. the population you may be seeing however may be different. i have heard that hhs had mandated more competent eval by qualified personnel on those receiving psychoactive medications , e.g. all the classic antipsychotics , but also i hear that there is a move for more specific monitoring of those on benzos and antidepressants. this may or may not be the case, but i did want to ease your mind about the patient population. most are sweethearts and just want to talk to someone. typically they are pretty isolated due to their illness and most laypeople keep them at a pretty long distance. it's a good chance to bring a little light into someone's life. enjoy!!
hope that helped a bit more..

Hello All,
Finally got a call for an interview and it is a Psych Home Health position. How dangerous are these? What kind of patients do you get? Any information appreciated a lot.
Thanks
