Question about points to get accepted to Oregon community colleges

U.S.A. Oregon

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and have been reading and there is so much helpful information. I have a couple questions about the point system at community colleges in Oregon. I applied to PCC, CCC, and MHCC. I read on PCC's website that last year the students who were invited to an essay had in the upper 50's for points. This may be a silly question, but I have excellent grades in all my science classes but overall low points for CCC and PCC. I'm assuming that doesn't matter and it's strictly based on the points regardless how they are distributed? I took all my prereqs at MHCC so I feel I have the best chance of getting into that program. I believe my points for both CCC and PCC are just under 50, and based on what I've read doesn't look like I have a chance at those schools. My first pick is MHCC so I'm crossing my fingers.

I love this forum!!

Hi there,

I am kind of in the same boat as you, with having taken my prerequisites at a different school than where I am applying. I applied to PCC, Chemeketa (where I took all my classes), and Clackamas. I have 58 pts for PCC and 56 for Clackamas, and am not too hopeful, at least for Clackamas. I searched through last year's posts and people with points in the high 50's were getting chosen for the essay/interview. I am not trying to discourage you at all, who knows what will happen this year. I bet you have a good chance at Mt. Hood. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. After reading through posts from last year, I gathered I probaly don't have much of a chance at PCC and CCC. That's ok....at least I tried. Thanks for the well wishes and I will update when I find out about MHCC. Good luck to you as well.

Hey, if you had a choice, would you choose CCC or PCC?

I would probably choose PCC.

Curious . . . what makes you lean towards PCC?

I'd go to PCC because it's a mile away from my house.

Aside from location, does anyone have any recommendations about PCC vs. ClackamasCC?

I've been to community colleges, state universities and private universities. At the end of the day, what you learn depends on you. That said, I get nothing out of lectures. Give me the book, let me sit for the mid-term and final and I'll pull an A. Showing up to class will be my biggest challenge should I get into a nursing program. I go into coma mode and zone out. Is anyone else like this?

I've been told that CCC has better facilities than PCC; more up-to-date and laid out better. CCC takes fewer nursing students than PCC, so perhaps you would get more attention at CCC if that is important to you. Other than that I can't think of any other big differences.

I would choose PCC because it's closer.
