Nurses New Nurse

Published

im a new nurse and just got my license last april and im currently working in a rehab facility/SNF/ICF for almost 3 months now. and now i saw that there would be a new grad residency program in larger hospital that will open late of september. and require at least GPA of 3.25 and reference letter from current employer or previous instructors.

i really want to enter a residency program since im a foreign trained and i know that there's a lot to learn even after nursing school and it would really help me in my profession.

can i apply even though i now for myself that i dont meet the minimum GPA?

if yes, what would be the best approach to request for a reference letter from my employer?

You could always apply, but they generally use GPA guidelines for a reason.

A year ago I applied to a new grad program with a 3.0 GPA requirment. They had over 700 people apply, interviewed 540 and hired 40 people.

The next time the program was offered they increased the GPA requirments to 3.25 so they would have less applicants to wade through

You might also want to check their requirements carefully. I haven't seen many new grad programs, but those I am aware of make it an absolute rule that you cannot have worked as an RN in any capacity. Your current work might rule you out.....It's worth checking anyway. And good luck!
