Question about obtaining bids

Published

I am just starting to learn more about travel nursing, I have about a year and half of nursing experience, all in the ICU at a 120 bed community hospital in the midwest. Due to my lack of clinical experience (both time and content wise) I am not looking to get serious about traveling for at least another couple of years. If I applied to travel in an ICU I'd surely have to end up getting my TNCC and CCRN to feel prepared on a personal level, however if I don't obtain those I may just end up traveling on a telemetry floor.

Anyways, my question is regarding the process of receiving bids...Is it possible for someone in my position who is merely speculating about traveling at this time and doesn't actually plan to travel for a few more years to sign up anywhere to get bids with detailed pay info that come with no obligation? I am very interested in the nuts and bolts financial breakdown and comparison of bids in different parts of the country, from different companies, etc. but in the same instance I don't want to knowingly waste the time of recruiters.... Any info would be appreciated.

In my experience it is all in what you can negotiate. If you are not really serious at this time then it will be a colossal waste of both you and a recruiter's time. Besides, in a couple of years all the information that you get today may no longer be valid.

Things change day by day. In order to save you and the recruiter time, wait until about 1-2 months before you are ready to start looking for traveling positions.
