Question about Nursing Schools in CA!

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Hello everyone,

Sorry if this isn't the correct place to place questions (I'm new here) but I really needed some guidance.:sorry:

I am currently in Pre-Nursing and will be finishing my FINAL pre-req soon. I already have a degree, Bachelors of Science in Business Administration, and am looking into schools with ASBSN programs like CSU-Stanislaus and CSU-Northridge.

HOWEVER, I would prefer the traditional route more, but am lost in finding a school that would accept second degree students. For example Stanislaus will not allow me to apply as a "normal" nursing student, I can only apply for the ASBSN program.

I really want to stay in California, specifically in Southern California Los Angeles area.

Could you point out some good colleges/universities that offer RN programs? I've been doing some research but am only coming across pages for LVN to RN programs for some reason.

Thank you in advance:cat:

Have you looked on the BRN website at the approved colleges? It shows the schools by ADN, BSN, MSN types. If you are willing to do an ADN college, some give extra points in their application to students who already have a degree.

I have a bachelor's degree in business as well and I opted the best route for me to ensure I had a good foundation (& the best deal financially) with the nursing curriculum was via the ADN route. A number of community colleges in Southern California (i.e., Moorpark College) do indeed offer additional entrance points for degrees in other fields. It is an ADN but at the end of the day, you take the same NCLEX and get the same RN licensure. You can then opt to continue on to a BSN that carries more flexibility once you get your RN status. Other community colleges with nursing programs include Pierce, College of the Canyons, Glendale Community College, and Ventura College right off the top of my head.

Specializes in ICU.

CA is notoriously difficult as it has an overflow of new grads. The unemployment rate amongst new grads in CA is greater than 40%. You will really just have to use google and investigate each school.

The area I live in now offers an ADN program, for some reason I didn't think about looking into ADN programs in the area I wanted to move too haha, thank you for the advice!

thank you SO much for the list of ADN schools. The area I live in now offers an ADN program, for some reason I didn't think about looking into ADN programs in SoCal. Thank you for the advice!
