Question for Nurses in Scotland...

Published

Hi there,

I was wondering what it was like to find nursing work in Scotland? would it be easier than finding it in England or are there NHS problems affecting nurses up there as well?

Thankyou,

I haven't applied for a job in Scotland, but if you look at this site http://www.jobs.scot.nhs.uk/ it seems like there are lots of jobs for nurses, which isn't the same as the experience as I have had in England. I know I have heard of a lot of students in England not able to get jobs on qualifying..:o

Lots of nursing jobs in Scotland, but the weather sucks

Thankyou, it says irish nurse, so Im assuming you're irish? do you come from Ireland? if so what would the prospects of jobs be in Ireland, the same? Im trying to find out any information on job prospects in all of the UK, because Im in a bind. My boyfriend lives in teh UK and I would love to work abroad, but living in Canada, I wouldnt want to leave a country where Im guaranteed a job here and not there.

I am Irish but live in Scotland. I have seen loads of jobs advertised in nursing magazines for jobs in Ireland though. Don't know how the salaries compare but worth looking into. If you want I can send addresses, phone numbers for vacancies I've seen

Thankyou for your response! and thankyou for the help.

Hey there,

I too am a Canadian Nurse and I am currently working in Scotland. You will have no problem finding a job here. The same nursing crisis that is gripping Canada is here, tonnes of jobs for the taking. If you are considering coming across the pond you should know that it will take you about on average about 10 months to get your nursing liscence from the Nursing and Midwifery Council so apply early. The link listed in the blog above is the best place to look for Scottish job postings. Let me know if there is any way I can help you out, I have been there and done it in terms of coming to work over here from a Canadian point of view. We have to look after our fellow Canucks eh?

Hi

I work in edinburgh and have noticed the past couple of years the number of vacancies has dramatically reduced.

When I qualified, 3 years ago, we basically had a pick of where you wanted to work, but now it seems student nurses are struggling to get posts.

It may be different for nurses with a few years under their belt.

:)
