Question about Littman Light stethoscope

Published

I just received my stethoscope yesterday and I'm not sure if I like it. Does anyone else have the Littman "Light." Admittedly, I chose this one because it was both a Littman and fairly inexpensive. I am considering sending it back and ordering the Littman Classic II S.E. Thoughts, anyone, anyone?

I don't know about the Lightweight, but my mom just got me the Classic II S.E. and it's fantastic..so I can highly recommend it. I haven't actually used it in a clinical..but I've been listening to anything my family will let me..LOL! :) Great acoustics and worth the money.

I was considering the lightweight or the classic too. I choose the classic because "it's the industries standard". Also, I read somewhere that the lightweight is basically for bp readings whereas the classic is for other assesments. I got mine off of ebay, brand new for $51.00. You should look into that.

Aren't you just so excited to start using it!?!

I read somewhere that the Littmann Light aren't really that good. I have the Littmann Master Classic II which is great.

Littman Classic II SE is good but the truth is most other manufactures have caught up long ago. Littman's is now not much more than a name, though you know what you are getting as it's an established name. So for the folks that don't test and research then by all means buy 3M Littman. However for acoustics, style and comfort I have found quite a few that meet or exceed the standard offered by Littman. This includes the from Dual Head stethoscope from W.A. Baum. DO NOT get a Welch Allyn what ever you do. They appear great, packaging and presentation, but are bad. Loads of defects have plagued their units such as their binaural tubing weeping oil from its polymer and the rest of the unit generally falls apart in a short time.

Keep one thing clearly in mind though when you decide to whip out your dollars. Most folk's stethoscopes go missing or get damages in a short time, so though there are those who must have a "name brand" to make a statement (or compensate  ) for the commonsense ones of us, my advise is to check the one from folks like W.A. Baum and skip the Littman and Welch Allyn. At these prices you may be able to buy two for the price of the Littman.

i had a Classic II that was stolen, so i bought a Lightweight. though i like it, it is not as good as the classic.

I"m a third semester, fourth year BSN student and I have the Littman Classic. I have borrowed classmate's scopes (cheapy double tube type scopes as well as the Littman Light). I highly prefer the Classic vs. the Lightweight. The earpieces are very comfortable, fit tight and the sound is great for any type of assessment. I don't let anyone borrow my scope and I keep it with me at all times on the unit. I work in a psych unit and use it for patient physical assessments everyday. It's well worth the extra money.

I purchased the "light" and I hated it. It sucked in fact. I couldn't have heard a bomb go off on that thing. I decided to really upgrade and order the Master Cardiology and LOVE IT!!!! :yelclap: I will not use anything else! I can be in a crowded room and hear clear as a bell with it.
