Question: Hesi and GPA /Advice please

Published

Hello all!!!

I've been a reader of this website for a few months now and I love finding helpful input and seeing what everyone's thoughts are about different subjects! That being said, I finally registered and am in need of advice going forward in my schooling.

I currently have a B.S. in Health Science from The University of West Florida here in Pensacola. I graduated last May (2014). I work as a medical receptionist Monday -Friday and have been since 2011, so once I graduated I kept my job. Every now and then I go on the hunt to attempt to find a better paying job but I have had no luck.

I decided to go back to nursing school in December and passed my Hesi A2 exam with an 82% overall. I thought I was good for the program I'm interested in but I got a call from someone in administration saying my combined GPA is only a 2.67 and I need at least a 2.75 or 3.0.

The school uses a points system so even increasing my GPA I still need to get at least 90's on a few parts of the HESI exam when I re-take it.

I'm trying not to feel discouraged but any advice on how I should go forward would be SO HELPFUL! :):)

Should I give up nursing with my lower GPA?

Is it crazy to think I can increase my HESI scores that much?

Thanks in advance!!!

Are there any prerequisite courses you can take like anatomy or chemistry to raise your GPA? What type of program have you applied to?

Can you retake classes you didn't do well in? If so I think you should look into that to raise your gpa!

I finished my prerequisites when I got my A.A. degree in 2010, but there are 3 classes that are in the program I was told I can take ahead of time while waiting on the waiting list. So maybe I can go ahead and take the 3 classes now and use them for raising my GPA.

I applied to an Associates Program for RN. I was hoping to start at least by January of 2016, but I'm not sure about that plan now that I have more things to do before I'm even eligible for the program. :/
