Question For All MCI RN Nursing Students

I am an RN student at the NN campus so I can answer some of your questions. I start clinicals next mod so I can't go into great depth.

Did you have clinicals in each nursing category for 5 weeks straight?

I am told by our nursing instructors that you get in for clinicals a few days out of the week. If you go to your adviser you can get a printout of the program and clinical hours for each mod. For example, Nursing Concepts 1 only has 16 clincal hours (but lots of lab time). Our DON told me it is all about clincal site availability. Sometimes you can only get into certain sites on certain days for a certain amount of time. I was told when we get into the Med/Surg for example which has 90 hours to expect 10 hour days for clincal rotations. Med/Surg is now 2 partsbtw, so you get an extra 90 clinical hours in the program.

Could everyone give an example of your monthly tuition payments?

Everyone is different due to what they get for financial aid. I have the GI Bill so I do not pay a dime. Some students make huge monthly payments and others make $100 a month payments. Contact financial aid, they are really good at breaking stuff down for you.

Was everyone able to pay their tuition in full by graduation time?

The money I will have to borrow when my GI Bill runs out, will not have to be paid back at graduation. I start making payments 6 months after I graduate.

How are the classes and instructors for each nursing modules?

The classes are tough. 5 weeks and a lot of information is a lot of work. You will be married to MCI for 16 months. The tests are tough too, because nursing tests are just tough in general. I have a previous bachelors and it was a cake walk compared to this. All the professors are different and have different styles just like any other school. I like them though. I try to read my chapters before class, highlight my book during lecture, and then take advantage of all the helpful stuff they post for us on Moodle. Lots of quiz shows and study guides. Plus the book websites are great.

Would you recommend friends and family to take the RN program at MCI?

MCI is NOT for everyone. For me it is the perfect fit. I would only recommend it to serious, MATURE people! I would let them know that they will not have a life for 16 months and that it is tough. But if you apply yourself you can do it!

Do you work while taking classes at MCI?

No, definitely not. A lot of my classmates work at least part time and some work full time. Some even work all night, then come to class, then go home and sleep for a few hours and do it again. I could not do it so I am grateful that my husband and I can make it on one income.

To get an understanding of the offsite clinicals, how many days of the week are they each module? Or what are the mandatory clinical hours required each module/class lab hours? I am trying to estimate how to manage my time.

Every module is different:

Nursing 1- 16 hours

Nursing 2- 24 hours

Med Surg 1- 90 hours

Med Surg 2- 90 Hours

All other Nursing Classes- 72 hours each class

Like I said above clinicals depend on site availability, so sometimes you will go multiple days a week for long hours.

Also, Nursing 1 and 2 both have 30 hours of lab time on top of lecture time.
