question about FL RN license by endorsement

Published

Hello all!

I am planning to move to FL in the next couple of months. Because of the way the job market is, I am not planning to move until I secure a job there. I have contacted HR at few hospitals and was basically told they won't consider an application until I have a FL license.

My question is, will my current NC RN license stay active after I apply/receive a FL one? Or will getting a FL license make my NC license inactive? I am hoping that they will both be active as I plan to stay working in NC until I secure a job in FL.

I can't seem to find an answer on the FL BON or in my online searches.

Thanks in advance!

NC license is not affected by applying to another state. Many travel nurses have licenses in different states and as long as you meet requirements when renewing should be OK

Thanks so much! :)

Hate to say this but I've juggled 12 licenses simultaneously during my traveling days. A person could have dozens if they wanted. Its a real hassel, and expense, to maintain them though.

The more prudent thing would be to keep alive the states that were particularly hard to get or originally fairly expensive. Also might not be a bad idea to maintain a particular status on your state-of-original-licensure simply for convenience.

If you are from a compact state you really have a head start on getting work. The problem is all these parochial BONs that won't give up the power and their reason for existence. National licensure anyone?

FL is not a compact state, so the NLC has no bearing in this situation. A lot of us don't consider the BONs "parochial" and are opposed to the idea of national licensure. Think you have trouble dealing with any of the state BONs?? Have trouble getting someone on the 'phone at your state office? Just imagine what it would be like if there were only one BON for the entire nation ... (What's the old saying about absolute power corrupting absolutely???)
