Question about first job

Published

I am a new NP. I just finished school in August and finally after all the credentialing got started at my first job in UC. In my collaborative practice agreement in Missouri at my facility I have to have a secondary collaborator. I thought the whole time I had one until I asked the physician about it and she flat out told me she was never asked to be my secondary although she's listed on agreement. My primary collaborator left town so I have not been allowed to practice and learn. My operations manager called me on Friday and said that she spoke with my hospitals attorneys and I had the clear to practice. I explained to her that it was illegal for me to practice without being within 30 miles of my collaborator. She got hateful with me and asked if I'd rather stay home and use pti until my collaborator got back on the 17? I told her no. I don't feel like I should have to stay home because they illegally added another dr. To my agreement without her approval. So now I'm only shadowing and getting no hands on experience which is very unfair. I did a fnp program so I ncan ed the training in this environment. I haven't been trained at all, I followed my collaborator in family practice for one month. My first day on my own is the 17 if my collaborator is back. They basically are throwing me on my own then because they had no provider for their clinic. I'm now worried that since the hospital has done several what I feel are illegal things they are going to black ball me. I don't know if I should just resign or what to do. Are they going to continuously do illegal stuff. I'm new and was super excited to start but now I feel like this has been a total nightmare and shouldn't be this way

This is really, really tough.

The problem has been that many organizations don't take collaborative agreements that seriously. They coerce physicians into signing, people who don't really want to collaborate. I can't blame the physicians.

The organization just want to see a body in the job, writing scripts and generating revenue.

The trouble with that is the BON takes the agreements very seriously.

I would not do anything until the collaborator returns.

30 miles. Ludicrous.

In my state, people have been fined and disciplined for not abiding by the agreements. It can happen.

Yes, you are being thrown under the bus.

Corporations have thought, this is great, we can just get an NP to do the same job as an MD for half the pay and we can pocket the difference.

But there is a little more to it than that.

Keep the faith, keep your chin up, you have come this far for a reason.

Hopefully, there will be someone with more knowledge to advise you, as I can only offer sympathy and encouragement.

I don't think it is an option where we work , it is just the expectation....but we have so many physicians in our dept alone that there is always someone to ask questions too.

Yes I was told my collaborator would be right next door now she's in a different city. I'm so frustrated with the mess. I'm looking for another job. I just worry no one will hire me!
