Question about duties of homehealth nurse

Published

I was wondering what a nurse does on their visit when they have a patient that requires no nursing skills aside from assessment. The visit has to be at least 45 minutes and usually up to an hour and you have to generally visit this patient anywhere between 10-30 times and usually once a week. Do you do teaching? And if so, what kind? Thanks

My visits were never that long but if they where I could find some things. Teach about the disease process, signs and symptoms, diet, home safety, medication compliance, medication teaching, medication dosing(fill the med box),exercise to keep the body working properly. You can chart while in the patient home, and you can chat and see how the patient is overall to see if any new issues have happened and they may need a doctors visits.

Where do you get that the visit has to be at least 45 minutes from? Most of my visits are not that long. And where do you get that you have to visit a patient anywhere from 10-30 times? I've had patients who I've visited once and I've had patients who I've visited hundreds of times. My patients are not necessarily once/week. Some are as infrequent as once/month or even once every 2 months and some are as frequent as daily. Every patient is different.
