I am getting ready to apply for my RN license. One of the questions is if I have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony. As a teenager (16) I was put on probation, which was a joke, I never meet my probation officer and just turned in a form of my community service hours and my report card, straight A's. I don't even know if I was convicted because I had a public defender who didn't explain anything to me. We were in and out of the courtroom in 3 minutes and I had community service hours to do by the time I left. Anyways, are juvenile records sealed automatically? Should I report this as yes? I in no way want to lie to the BRN, but my mom states that this only stipulates your adult records. In California who should I contact to clarify this? Thanks so much. Finals are tomorrow and I'm getting all frazzled. :imbar

I think you have to call your State Nursing Board and ask them, and they can tell you for sure. Good luck!

Questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:
Is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?
Is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a MIP, DUI, or other related charges?
What happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?
Can I go to nursing school and/or be licensed if my record has been sealed or expunged?
Will I be able to go to nursing school with a criminal record?
What can happen if I receive a MIP/DUI/DWI or other charge while still in school?
These are questions that the members of allnurses.com cannot answer. The only reliable source of information is your State Board of Nursing.
