I believe those on the alternate list are called upon if an opening comes up during the year! I asked my recruiter if I had a lesser chance of being chosen because I am not already licensed as an RN and he said "if there are immediate openings, they will pull upon the applicants from the last FQ board."
Good luck!
Can someone out there shed some light for me. I am on the alternate list for the latest Air Force nursing board for critical care. Does anyone know if we who are on the alternate list do not get in, are we automatically in on the next COT? Or do we have to go through the selection process again? Any light on this subject would be appreciated.
My understanding from my recruiter is this: when you're an alternate, if for any reason someone can't make the class, you would get their spot. If no one drops, as an alternate you automatically get into the next class, no board selection required because you were technically already picked. Or, if the whole year goes and there are no alternates picked up, you count towards the next fiscal year numbers and go in the first COT class for that following year.
Don't think cause you're an alternate you're not in. You're simply in the holding pattern we all know and love.
I know that this post is old, but byrango's situation is not longer true. Starting with the October FQ board, AF nurse alternates will no longer be automatically selected for the next board. I know this because I was an alternate from March 2013 and I am having to reapply for October 2013 without any guarantees.
