Question for AG-ACNP student or practitioner

Published

So here's my dilemma. I am applying to Vanderbilt University's AG-ACNP program for the Fall 2014. They have 3 tracks within this specialty: intensivist, trauma, or hospitalist. My ideal job after graduation is to work in the ICU. For this reason, I have been planning to apply to the intensivist track. I have almost two years of experience in the float pool in a hospital - which has given me some ED experience and some very miniscule experience in the burn ICU, however.. I really am not a critical care trained RN.

Do you think it is against my interest and my chances of admission to apply to the intensivist track? Do you think applying to the hospitalist track instead would be a better option for my admission, even though I do want to be in the ICU after graduating?

Thank you in advance for any help with this!

I would go ahead and apply to the track that you want, Vanderbilt has direct entry programs so I wouldn't think you would be excluded just on the basis of not working in ICU, anyway if ICU is where you really want to be I don't think a hospitalist track will be your best preparation, just my opinion
