Hi everyone!

i am currently doing my first travel assignment in Alaska, and finishing my 13 week contract. I have a question about switching travel companies, in my contract it says that i can not seek or accept any sort of employment with this facitlity for a period of 1 year following completion of this contract i am on now, without my travel company representing me. I am extending my contract with this current facility i am with, and have asked my travel company if they offer any incentives to extending and they have come back and said no. I thought they may turn around ang give a little pay rise or soemthing...So i am hunting around for another travel company. Do travel companies normally include this type of thing in their contracts? or do they mean i can not negotiate my own terms with hte hospital?????????

My other question is about taxes.. I was told by my travel company that they do not take out any taxes, is there a company there that i can pay a fee to do my taxes? I believe the quarter taxes are due soon?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks a bunch!!

As far as I know, all travel companies put this in the contracts to prevent you from jumping ship.(Even the good ones).

This only applies if you are doing a travel position. If you switch over and become a regular staff member then that is ok.

I don't know of any travel companies that do taxes. I have mine done by HR Block premium services. It costs about a $125 extra but with all the deductions and things I claim i need someone who knows what they are doing.

Ask specifically for someone who is familiar with travel nursing laws.

That is a pretty standard clause in most contracts. I don't know how legally enforceable it is, but I think most hospitals would want to continue their good relationship with the agency more than one nurse.

As for taxes, are you asking if most companies withhold taxes from your paycheck? If so, most companies do. Otherwise, you need to talk to a tax accountant about paying your own.

Thanks for the helpful responses!! As far as taxes, there are none being taken out by my travel company.

In that case you really need to talk to a tax specialist, especially since (I'm assuming here from your name) you are from a different country and there may be tax implications different than what we are familiar with. There is a poster on this site namend Travel Tax who is a good source of information. You may want to see if he is around and will answer this.
