Queensborough Community College Nursing Program, is there hope? English class

The application requirements are very clear but I am worried

In the pre-reqs I got:

Psychology101: A

Anatomy and physiology: A

Sociology: B+

English101: C-

Yes I know, I don't know what the hell happened in English :(

However I read something in the site that gave me a bit of hope and it said:

Only the first grade attained in the pre - clinical sequence will be calculated. However, students are permitted to increase their Application GPA by substituting a grade achieved in a higher level course. This substitution is allowed for one Pre Clinical Course as follows:

  • Bio-302 for Bio-301
  • Eng-102 for Eng-101
  • PSYC-220 for PSYC-101

Does this mean if I get an A in English 102, they will disregard the grade I have for English 101? Is it to good to be true??

I have an A in English 102

What are the chances of me getting accepted?

If you got accepted into the nursing program at qcc, what was your GPA?

That is how I am reading it. Eng 102 for 101. But I didn't get in to QCC's program but my grades were shotty. Your grades looks decent and they just might consider you but you know how it is there. So good luck!

I really just hope they accept my A in English 102 and forget about English 101.

I don't even know if I'm wasting my time or money because the professor I had for English 101 was horrible and didn't even help me out when I needed to. All because of that my future nursing career is going to come to an end (hopefully not). Reading the substitution policy is what is keeping me going however I am still quite skeptical about their statement about substitution on the site.

You may want to start applying elsewhere. Your grades look really good so you may get in somewhere else if QCC doesn't work out. Don't give up on your dream.

My grades are good however, the English 101 is what the downfall is :( wouldn't that effect me applying to other schools?

Everyone tells me, how could you get very good grades yet get a C- in english, I'm quite unfortunate I guess...

Yeah that c- sucks. It happens, trust me I know. But the other schools may take the most recent grade. You never know if you don't try.

Yea :/ Did you ever go to QCC? If so, what GPA did you get when they didn't accept you into the program?

Don't let that grade keep you from applying, especially with an A in EN102. Many people have gotten in with less than stellar grades in science subjects, so English is probably not something to keep you from getting in.

You may feel ready to apply and get going but... do yourself a favor and complete A&P 2 and micro before starting your nursing classes (if you haven't already). A&P 2 can be taken with Nursing 101 and Micro can be taken with NU102 but it is really not a good idea. A&P 2 with 101 is doable for some (though not easy at all) and may give someone hope at doing well if they do the same with Micro and 102, however, 102 has massive amounts of information to remember and massive amounts of information to understand along with two days of lecture and two days of clinical.

Also, be aware that if you fail 101, the chances of getting back in are slim to none, you are not guaranteed to be able to repeat and must file an appeal and hope for the best. If you fail another nursing semester you are allowed to repeat only one class. You are not guaranteed to get back in for the following semester and may have to wait an additional semester to get back in (there are many people waiting to get back in)...putting you a year behind your planned schedule. These are classes that can do an incredible amount of damage to your GPA if they are failed. NU 101 is a 7 credit class and 102 is 9 credits.

If you have already taken those classes then hopefully that will be helpful for someone else :)

Were in bullet point 3 it says I may "substitute" Eng-102 for Eng-101

is it to good to be true? Is that what I think they are saying?

What do you think they mean by it? I hope I'm not misinterpreting it.

I would assume that it means just what it says. When you are ready to apply, go to the information session that they have and you'll be able to ask questions that you have. I don't really suggest asking an advisor, some people have been given bad advice about applying and starting the program when they still had classes that they should have gotten out of the way first. Don't let people discourage you about getting in, there is this idea that if you have less than a 4.0 that you will never get in and that is simply not true.

When you do apply make sure you are ready to commit fully, it is much more work and time spent than your average classes.

I am very well dedicated to spend years of my life in the nursing program once I'm in, thank you once again :)

It makes me feel a lot better when there is someone out there willing to help a person out

Yeah I went to QCC. I had a low GPA :no:. I can't remember off the top of my head. I retook a lot of classes and I was struggling. But that is why I am saying it seems like you will be okay. And as the others say, take your science classes. Focus hard. I can't remember my teachers for those classes but once you stay focused you will be alright.
