who are qualified to teach ana&physio?

HELLO TO EVERYONE!

I was really fascinated with this forum.Well,i have a little bit trouble in my anatomy&physiology instructor.....he seemed to be not know about it..he is an RN grad.Is he qualified to teach us? I knw ana&physio is the basic foundation of nursing that's why we need a competent instructor!:banghead:

Specializes in Emergency.

My human A & P instructor was a specialist in marine neurochemistry, so it wasn't his specialty either, but he was an AMAZING professor.

As for an RN being qualified to teach A&P just because they're a nurse, well I disagree with that totally. I had several profs who were "qualified" to teach pharm, patho, and some other courses, simply because they were RNs and had a masters degree in something.

I think if your prof doesn't seem to be be qualified to teach the course, thats something you & your class need to take up with the course director and program director. Make sure you bring SPECIFIC examples of what you mean.

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

who's to say what standard is used to rate an instructor as competent? i had two full professors with phds in college who had both written the textbooks we used for their classes. that kind of made them celebrities. most of the students would agree, however, that they were both crappy instructors. one, in particular, was a nasty guy you didn't want to butt heads with--ever. if a student had problems, i guess they flunked or dropped the class and signed up with a different instructor; others figured the material out and passed.

Accredited colleges and universities in the US have strict rules they must abide by about who is considered "qualified" to teach any particular subject. Of course, that doesn't guarantee someone will be a good teacher :), but they at least have to meet standards that define who is "qualified" to teach different subjects. In general, the standards are that you have to have an advanced degree or, at least, a significant amount of graduate level coursework in that subject, specifically. I don't know how this issue is handled in other countries. Are you talking about a school in the US? Is it a legitimate, accredited college or university?
