Quadrivalent flu vac

I just saw a ridiculous story on the news on the quadrivalent. They are calling it "high dose". Its not "high dose" is it? It just has the 4 virus that they are trying to pedict. They were bashing it big time for nursing home residents. What is your understanding and opinion on this??? Are they giving the quadrivalent at your workplace? I will be getting mine next week.

The new quadvalnet adds another B virus to the vaccine which aims to give broader protection against circulating flu viruses. The old one was a trivalent which forced experts to choose only one B virus, even though there are two very different lineages of B viruses that both circulate during So the new one has an influenza A H1N1 virus, an influenza A H3N2 virus and two B viruses. I just took it today and had looked it up after I took it! How can MORE protection hurt!

Fluzone High-Dose is an influenza vaccine, manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur Inc., designed specifically for people 65 years and older. It contains four times the amount of antigen, thus creating a stronger immune response. This high dose for this group addresses the aging immune system that tends to weaken with age!

SO I believe there is plain quadvalent, providing the extra B virus and and high dose quadvalent, providing 4 times the antigen. Correct me if I have interpreted this incorrectly

We're giving the high dose quadrivalent IMs in our elderly population for precisely the reason iluvit mentioned. The immune system in the elderly is not as reactive nor efficient, and typically needs more priming before it will trigger. Given the less than stellar coverage noted for the flu vax last year, I'm all for covering as many strains as practical. I've seen enough ARF r/t influenza to last me.
