Q about rutgers nursing program

U.S.A. New Jersey

Hello,

I am looking to transfer from WPUNJ to Rutgers (either New Brunswick or Newark). Do they even accept transfer students? Their website is unclear. I want to transfer before I'm a junior. I am in the WPUNJ nursing program, and my GPA is a 3.84. Can someone please help me?

According to the website, the nursing program isn't accepting transfers from other schools for 2011..I think mostly because they get tons of transfers from other programs within Rutgers (I'm a Rutgers student transferring in this fall). Your gpa is great though, if you don't mind me asking, why do you want to leave your school if you're already in the nursing program there?

Let me know if you have any other questions!

After I posted the question I scoured their website for an answer. It said they don't accept people for spring. Does it say they aren't accepting any for fall 2011 as well? I'm looking to transfer because my financial aid was taken away at WPU, and I'd rather take out loans for a more reputable school. Does the nursing program accept juniors? Thanks :)

I found this on the website:

"GENERIC PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES ONLY (WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING TRANSFER STUDENTS FROM OTHER SCHOOLS INTO THIS PROGRAM FOR FALL 2011)"

I actually read that a few days ago and was surprised, but like I said, the applicant pool is flooded with Rutgers students so I'm assuming that's why they aren't taking applications next year :-/. It's a shame because you'd have a great shot with your gpa. If you really want to go to Rutgers, you can apply to the school of arts and sciences - take classes there for a year (I did that this year and took some nursing requirements) and apply for a school-to-school transfer for fall 2011. It may be a huge risk though, so I'd probably look at other schools too if you're set on transferring.

WPUNJ has a great nursing program the school is not so great and well known but the nursing program is amazing i would deff stay there . i know some grads who are great nurses and found great jobs right away

Yes, I'll have the WPUNJ program to fall back on. I just want to try to get into another one. My next option is TCNJ, since RU is pretty much out of the picture. Thank you very much for your help. I really don't want to risk transferring and not getting in. I would stay at WPU if I don't get accepted anywhere else.

I know this is an old thread, but could one who is not seeking a degree at another school transfer into Rutgers as a part time student (take one class) this Spring and apply to do the school-to-school transfer for the Fall semester?

I am a junior at Rutgers-Newark in the nursing program so i may have a little insight to your question. They are not accepting any external transfers until further notice like someone else mentioned due to the amount of school to school transfers within Rutgers. They won't allow you to transfer in as a junior either because we start clinicals our junior year and you have to complete the lower level nursing courses which don't transfer over from school to school. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer because I know what it was like to have all these questions and no one to answer:)

Hi Dreaming1007, I have taken all the prereqs. for the ABSN program. What are the lower level nursing courses for the BSN? I graduated from RU in 2010 and have applied as a re-enrollment. So in the Spring I will be taking Organic Biochemistry and apply to the school-to-school transfer for Fall 2012 (as a junior)... Unless there are some necessary lower level courses I haven't taken. I haven't taken these classes:

120:245Pathophysiology (S)3

355:201Research in Diciplines3705:223Trends in Healthcare Delivery (S)3

I'm not sure exactly what the requirements are for the ABSN program but for traditional BSN students Human Interactive Processes and Cultural Dimensions could be taken prior to entrance into the nursing program. Like I said, I am not sure if ABSN students are required to take those courses so definitely inquire about those two.

well, I have to choose between applying as a school-to-school transfer and applying to the ABSN. I can't apply to both (was informed of this today). My RU gpa was 3.3, and I have a 3.5 in the prereqs (summer)... maybe a 3.7 for the fall semester. Not from RU though from comm college.
